Skill Level: Intermediate - Advanced

Ratio Guarantee: 6 students per instructor, max 12 students per camp week

Software: Arduino/C++ on Arduino Uno USB Development Board

Location: Smith Research Center, Rm 120 see location.

Time: Monday - Friday, 9am - 4pm

Course Description:

One of the mysteries of digital fabrication lies in the machines themselves. From 3D printers and CNC mills to laser cutters they take our designs and print objects in three dimensions, cut forms out of blocks of aluminum, or etch images onto plastic all through a process that can seem somehow magical.

In this camp you will demystify CNC fabrication machines, and come to understand the magic that makes them work by constructing and programming one of your own. The CNC machine that you build and program by the end of this camp will be able to transfer digital images, or text onto a drawing surface. You will learn how to design in a computer aided design (CAD) program, how to power and program stepper motors, and how to operate CNC machines to fabricate the components you have designed for assembly and use.

What Students Take Home: Students will have the complete CNC machine they build to take home.
